Microgynon is a combined gestagen-estrogen medication used to prevent undesirable pregnancy. Each pack of Microgynon contains 21 dragee, containing 0,15mg of Levonorgestrel and 0,03mg Ethinylestradiol. The use of Microgynon is started at the first day of menstrual cycles, taking the first pill corresponding to a day of week. Microgynon dragee is taken orally without chewing swallowing with sufficient amount of water. Microgynon pills should be taken at the same time each day for 21 days. After 21 days of regular use, follows a 7-day interruption during which menstrual-like bleedings are possible. On the 8th day women should begin with the next pack of Microgynon.
After a 7-day interruption, women should continue with the new pack of Microgynon independently if the menstruation continues or has already been stopped.
Contraceptive effect of Microgynon is started from the first day of application and remains during a 7-day interruption. The first cycle will be a little bit shortened and the following cycles will last for four weeks.
Inappropriate use, vomiting and intestinal diseases accompanied by diarrhea, individual changes of metabolism, concomitant use with certain drugs may affect the effectiveness of Microgynon.
If a women took any other hormonal birth control medications and begins contraception right after pregnancy, Microgynon should be taken only after the doctor’s consultation. Microgynon is contraindicated for use during breastfeeding.
