Clomid, known also as Clomiphene citrate or Serophene is one of the most popular fertility drugs in our times. The drug is usually well tolerated, though like any medication, it can arise a number of side effects. Be aware of the most spread Clomid side effects:
- Twins and Multiple Pregnancies
While taking Clomid a woman is at risk to get pregnant with twins or even triples. However, the risk is not really high. According to the held clinical trials only 6.9% of pregnancies were twin pregnancies, 0.5% – were triplets. To decrease the risk of having twins while taking Clomid, the starting dose should be the lowest one, usually it comprises 50 mg.
- Hot Flashes
As clinical studies show about 10% of women taking Clomid experience hot flashes a condition when a person suddenly feels extremely warm, experiences face flush, breaks out in a sweat and notes a more rapid heartbeat. Hot flashes can happen at night also, and are known as ‘night sweats’. In fact hot flashes are unlikely to cause any dangerous complications. They bring only unpleasant, uncomfortable feelings.
- Bloating and Abdominal Discomfort
Bloating and abdominal discomfort is another common side effect of Clomid, which occurs in about 5% of women taking Clomid. As a rule the abdominal discomfort is usually mild, but if you experience more than moderate discomfort and cramps, call your doctor.
- Nausea and Dizziness
Nausea and dizziness can be experienced by 2% of women taking Clomid. If the nausea is intense, or you have trouble keeping down food and fluids, be sure to report this to your doctor.
- Abnormal Menstrual Bleeding
This is a rare side effect of Clomid. Only about 1% of women report abnormal menstrual bleeding, as a result of Clomid taking. It should be mentioned that if you note spotting while being on Clomid do not refer it to the implantation spotting, as it is not obligatory so. The spotting may occur in the result of the drugs you are taking. If it is accompanied by other symptoms like abdominal pain or vomiting feel free to contact your physician immediately.
